Planned Barrenhood

This blog was prompted by a conversation I recently had with a relative. Imagine my surprise when I heard her say, that Planned Parenthood only dealt with family planning services. This really forced me to stop and think. How many other people are deluded with this same misconception?

My relative has a masters degree in education and is an upper income bracket earner. She is highly intelligent and very well read (major media). Although her pro-life views have some limits, I certainly thought that she would be better versed on Planned Parenthood. For such an intelligent and well educated person to believe that Planned Parenthood deals only with family planning measures, when they are the largest abortion provider in the nation, is a testament to the success of the mainstream media, in their marginalization of the pro-life movement.

Let's face facts here. Everyone in the pro-life movement knows what Planned Parenthood is doing. Why haven't we been able to get that information out to the general public? Two thoughts come to mind.  One is the major media cover up, which has marginalized pro-lifers as cranks and fanatics, leaving many intelligent people to write us off. Successful media propaganda can fool even the most erudite and well educated person, and has.

My second thought, and probably the most significant, is why has the pro-life movement message failed to show the average educated person, that we are a credible movement  Against a modern media that has painted pro-lifers as still living in the middle ages, what can we do to counter this image?   Would love to hear your comments ........

The only thing I know to do is to tell my own abortion story.

If more women who bought into the propaganda of the "pro-choice" side and now regret it spoke out, it would be such a force that the media could not stand up against it.

However, shame and fear keep many of us silent.

I think you hit on 1 of the biggest answers, the way the media paints us. Too many peopl do not go beyond that & automaticly shut down.

Then there are plenty of people who don't want to hear the truth. For them, no matter what we say they will not change their minds.

A lot of the problem with getting the message out has to do with where the money is, or isn't. The pro-life movement does a great job given the amount of money it has in comparison with the pro-abortion side.

In a way we are David to the pro-abortion Goliath. In the end we will win because we are on the right side.

There are many other things I could go into, like the all to often lack of support from the clergy.

Jennifer, as you probably know, there are groups like Silent No More who are working to change that.

Dear Jennifer, Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future. Thank you for sharing your very personal experience. Silent no More is an organization where women who have had abortions do speak out. Because our media really doesn't care about women or life, their message is not available for the public, only those involved with the movement. This is what must change. We need to promote our media tools. We need to encourage everyone to be on a pro-life mailing list. We need unity in purpose and exposure. Visit us at www.ifrl.org/lake or on twitter. We present federal, state and local right to life news. Spread that word. It's better than Time magazine. Again, thanks for following and for sharing & caring.

Al, The tide is turning. People are beginning to realize that they must speak out. And to speak out, you must be informed. We've come a long way since 1973 and we have a long way to go. Our job is to motivate couch potatoes. Another thought, I believe that people have not become involved in defending human life, because it is a life commitment and most people are perhaps afraid. It doesn't help to have silent pulpits. But we've come this far with silent pulpits, and we will continue.
