Horton Who? Who Hatched the Egg?

A recent article in the Daily Herald titled, "Donor's Kids Seek To End Anonymity Of Their Fathers", made me think. First thought that comes to mind, is that I think it borders on child abuse. The second thought that comes to mind, is that our understanding of marriage and the rights of the child, in the Jude-Christian sense, has been drastically eroded. Now, there is a movement for children who are the result of donor sperm fathers, to find their fathers in adolescence and young adulthood.

This brings to mind the plot of the first Star Wars Movie, where the Voyager probe, that has been out into space to retrieve information, became so intelligent it was almost human, so much so that it was seeking it's creator. Now enter children, the result of sperm donors, who are sent into a test-tube. These children have been raised without a father, by choice of a parent. Now a new movie comes to mind -  "The Kids Are Alright". This movie shows two siblings who track down their sperm donor fathers and introduce them to their lesbian mothers. Many, many complications ensue, but the theme repeats, teens yearning to meet their dad, like the star-trek Voyager probe, longing to know the source of their being.

This is a tragedy. What are we doing? In our efforts to re-design nature, we've forgotten the children. Did anyone ask them whether or not they wanted to be raised without a father? In the quest for parental choice and freedom, we've forgotten there's a third person involved here. Perhaps two homosexuals or a single parent  feel they have the right to choose an alternative life-style, but what about the child? It is a selfish perspective, to say the least.

Now comes, a study by the Commission on Parenthood's Future titled, "My Daddy's Name is Donor". This study concluded that these children were more troubled and depression prone - than other young adults in comparative groups, and recommended an end to anonymous sperm donation. Hmmmmmmm. Why just anonymous? When you separate life from love, everyone is going to have problems. It's like a computer. A man donates his sperm and there's no inter-personal action whatsoever. The sperm is implanted in the woman after conception. The result is a baby without a father and a single mom raising a child. This makes children mere possessions, not gifts. After all, there are a lot of sperm and eggs used to create a single life. Many are discarded because they are not healthy or just extraneous.

Why sperm donation? Follow the dollar. It's a huge business in the U.S. Some experts estimate there are at least 30,000 sperm-donor conceptions annually. Some experts say many more.

More than 28,000 people involved in anonymous donations - offspring, parents and donors have registered with the Donor Sibling Registry, like a pedigree registry for animals! The reason for the registry is to help children find their parent. To date, this registry has helped more than 7,400 people find their biological siblings or fathers.

This is right out of Dante's Inferno. Which level of hell are we at now?  Are we at the bottom yet?  How much lower can we go?
