Abortion Tales

Making the “Unthinkable” the “New Normal”

By Dave Andrusko
pp2_0Time is simply running out on me, so a critique of the second of two of the loopiest, out-to-sea pro-abortion essays I have ever read will have to wait until Monday. If you have time–and an iron stomach–you could read “America’s Abortion Wars” (and How to End them”), a hit piece on the Movement that is as all-encompassing as it is shallow.

But that leaves “The Year Unthinkable Became the New Normal,” by Michelle Goldberg.
It’s the usual rehash of the pro-abortionists tale of woe but which ends with the hopeful conclusion that because pro-lifers are so extreme, the nation will rise up and join the pro-abortion army.
So, on the one hand, everything is awful. Everything pro-lifers have done is a lie, or based on one. Roe is perched on the precipice. State legislatures are going crazy passing pro-life legislation, etc., etc. , und so weiter, und so weiter.
However, on the other hand, Goldberg tells her readers, “If there’s comfort for abortion rights supporters in the current moment, it mostly lies in the hope that abortion opponents have overstepped.”

But let’s ask ourselves, or, better yet, a neutral third party who has really “overstepped”? Who made the “Unthinkable” the “New Normal”?
Who in a full-blown advertisement for Planned Parenthood offered a montage set to the Christmas hymn “Silent Night,” a song that celebrates the birth of Christ, while the main character Olivia Pope has an abortion, killing her and the president’s baby? That would be ABC’s “Scandal.”
Who applauded this as “groundbreaking” and “awesome”? Not just the zanies who write for pro-abortion blogs but critics for “mainstream” publications such as the Washington Post.
Who continues its homage to the female-bonding power of abortion, seen most recently the “comedy,” Grandma, starring Lilly Tomlin. Get the joke? The granddaughter needs money for her abortion, she tries to tap her curmudgeonly grandmother who is tapped out, and they go “on the road” where Tomlin’s character calls in favors to raise the cash to obliterate her great-grandchild.
Better yet, Lilly clobbers the useless father of the granddaughter’s baby and swears her way across the town, the symbol of foul-mouthed liberation. It’s like living the 60s all over again.

Who turns a woman who brutally stabs her unborn baby with a coat hanger into a feminist heroine/ martyr when she is charged with attempted murder? Who still refers to a 1.5 baby who has been devastated for life as a “fetus”? That would be pro-abortion columnist Jessica Valenti.
Would the pro-abortion commentariat still tout the woman as a kind of modern day Joan of Arc if she tortured her baby in utero? Wait a minute. That’s already being done when pain-capable unborn children–like this woman’s 24-week-old unborn baby–are torn limb from limb.

Who do we see, between sips of wine and bites of salad, jokes about and makes fun of the ungodly process of extracting intact baby body parts? Who talks about how “you try to intentionally go above and below the thorax, so that, you know, we’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so I’m not gonna crush that part, I’m gonna basically crush below, I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact”?

That would be Dr. Deborah Nucatola, senior director for medical services for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America

Who also is captured on video talking about “We’ve just been working with people who want particular tissues, like, you know, they want cardiac, or they want eyes, or they want neural. …Oh, gonads! Oh, my God, gonads”? And in case anyone should ask, “Everything we provide is fresh?
That would be Dr. Carolyn Westoff, Planned Parenthood’s Senior Medical Advisor.
Who draws a “strong parallel” between Dr. Nucatola and “the trial week of Jesus” before His crucifixion?

That would be itinerant abortionist Willie Parker.
Who is making the “Unthinkable” the “New Normal”? The ever-more-zealous abortion industry and its chorus of media enablers.
