Safe, legal and rare, that is what President Clinton said about legal abortion. Now enter the abortion pills which make abortion not rare, not safe, but remaining legal. The advent of the abortion pills may change the debate over abortion, but certainly not the ethic.
It has been reported by the Associated Press on July 9th that roughly a quarter of women getting early abortions last year did so with drugs and not surgery. Statistics show a new study reported improved safety in using the so-called abortion pill (RU-486). RU-486 cost is $400.00, only slightly less than the median cost of an early term surgical abortion.
Abortion pills are prescribed, but are taken at home. I wonder what the psychological effect on women will be? With the advent of pills, abortion remains legal, not rare and questionably medically safe, but still morally wrong.
