Defending Alveda King

Imagine our surprise when an article titled, "The Shame of Alveda King" by Johnathan Capehart was published in the Washington Post on August 30, 2010. Alveda King appeared with Glenn Beck at his Restoring America rally in D.C. After the rally, Alveda King has become a target for her pro-life, pro-family and pro-marriage views by the biased media whose goal is to have a cultural revolution to reshape our world.

Just the fact that Alveda King is pro-life and pro-family sealed her fate with the media. Everyone on line seems to have weighed in vilifying her. Although both her father and uncle were murdered, she has continued their legacy by embracing non-violence and color blindness. Alveda recognizes that black genocide is real, just as her uncle Martin Luther King realized that only peaceful protests would solve racial hatred, a lesson our media has refused to cover.

Just digest the media coverage for a minute. Not only did they not report on the hundreds of thousands of average Americans, who at their own expense, traveled to Washington, D.C. to pray for our nation, but they covered the Al Sharpton counter event ad nauseum. Is this the man who mirrors Martin Luther King's dream? Al Sharpton has never spoken on black genocide, a major problem in the Afro-American community, but instead, uses divisive rhetoric, believes in abortion and promotes racial hatred toward Jewish people.

Alveda King has not used her relation to Dr. King for money or power. In fact, she has used it to try to change our country from a culture of death to a culture of life.

If All You're Going To Do To Oppose Abortion Is Pray, Then Don't Bother

I often see them on the bumpers of cars in the parish parking lot. There are several variations, but they boil down to the same thing: "Pray to End Abortion"

Frankly, these get on my nerves.

I fear that too many people sporting these stickers think that between their prayers, and their "public witness for life" -- that is, putting the bumper sticker on their car -- they're doing their part.

I believe that if God wanted to end abortion, He would do so without my prayers of encouragement.

I mean really, if God wanted to end abortion, He could very easily arrange a PowerBall jackpot to be awarded to someone like Joe Scheidler -- or me! -- and that would go a long a way towards getting the job done.

So if you're praying your daily or weekly rosary for life and that's all you're doing, I can't see that you're making any difference. I'm sorry if that offends you, but that's my perspective.

There's more you can do.

63 days from today, there are going to be elections held all over the U.S. Over 30 U.S. Senators, 435 Congressmen, a dozen or so governors and other state-wide offices, literally thousands of state legislators, and countless other local officials will all be chosen on November 2nd.

What are you doing to help a pro-life candidate? You don't need to tell me, but you do need to have an answer to this question. Because you know what? Abortion isn't going to end while it's still legal. And there will never be legal protections for the unborn until and unless we elect pro-life men and women to offices high and low.

The pro-aborts know this, and they are busily electing their own to library boards, town councils, park district boards, and every elective office from the lowest to the highest.

With so little time before the election, it's time and past time for pro-lifers to make their presence in the world felt. Somewhere near you, there is an under-funded pro-life candidate struggling to make a difference. Write him a check. Somewhere nearby, you will find a pro-life candidate struggling to get the word out about his candidacy. Volunteer to make phone calls or knock on doors for him.

Yes, yes, I know you're too busy. You've got work, and school, and kids and a family and house and sports and whatever else. If you're really pro-life, you'll find a way to make time, even if it's only two hours a week, or only two hours total, between now and election day.

This is why I haven't been blogging. I've been spending the last year in the trenches fighting abortion, first as a candidate for office myself, and (since losing my primary) working with other candidates and organizations. Right now I'm focused on the campaign of my friend Dan Sugrue, a hardworking Catholic family man who's trying to unseat a pro-abort Democrat. If you're in the area, you could make Dan a donation or volunteer to help. If you're not in the area, you could still make a donation (many of you donated to my campaign), or find a candidate local to you to volunteer with.

But I'm begging you, it's time to set aside the rosary, and pick up the phone. Time's running out.

Follow the Dollars & The Flying Monkeys

The liberal mainstream media has a hard time in saying anything nice about conservatives or their causes. In fact, the Washington Examiner discovered, that the employees of ABC, NBC and CBS gave more than $1 million dollars to Democratic candidates in 2008.

Gosh, Diane Sawyer probably gave more than that with all of her interviews; especially the Obama interview. Everyday, Diane's dramatic tone tells us how wonderful the world could be without the damages done by the former President Bush and his policies, as well as his party. She's like the witch on the yellow brick road, misdirecting traffic away from the the way back home. Her flying monkeys are kidnapping the mind of the public, and wisking it away to her castle of death and deception.

I wonder how accurately they report on conservative issues. Take abortion - take the March for Life - this march is held every January 22nd to commemorate the Roe v Wade decision. Have you ever seen Diane interviewing anyone who attends the march? Or have you ever seen her at the march? Have you seen any major network news stations covering the march? If you have, you must have been watching an alternate media source.

This information has all come to light with a recent disclosure in a news release from the Washington Examiner, which reported that candidate Barack Obama received contributions from 710 employees of the three major networks, for a whopping total of $461,898 dollars! Wow! That's a lot of dollars. They say money talks and Barack Obama got elected. Hmmmm, there's mis-directing sign posts on the Yellow Brick road.

In 2008, John McCain ran as a Republican against the Democratic candidate, Obama. The major media employee contributions to his campaign totalled $26,926 dollars from 38 employees. McCain was endorsed by most pro-life voters, and most conservative groups.

In fact, in the same news release from the Washington Examiner, an analysis of campaign donations by media reporters, producers and writers found 88% of them went to pro-abortion candidate Barack Obama in 2008.

It's becoming very clear, that if you watch the major media outlets and listen to the soothing voice of Diane Sawyer, you aren't getting the news, but are being hauled off by the flying monkeys of the mainstream media and their influence ...

Death Takes A Holiday

President Obama proudly issued an executive order that expanded federal funding for embryonic stem-cell research. Making his announcement he said, "it would hasten a day when words like terminal and incurable are finally retired from our vocabulary." Wow! What a statement! Sounds like he's into taxidermy, or Dr. Frankestein where are you?" Or perhaps he thinks he's fired poor Peter at the Pearly Gates.

Obama made this announcement in March of last year, when he dismantled the Bush policy on embryonic stem-cell research. In issuing his executive order, probably from the Pearly Gates, the President claimed, "it's about protecting free and open inquiry, and letting scientists do their job - free from manipulation and coercion and listening to what they tell us, even when it's inconvenient. When science wins, we all win." Really? So Dr. Frankenstein is going to keep us alive forever? Peter has been given his walking papers by Dr. Frankenstein.

There's an inconvenient truth here that the President omitted. In order for the original Dr. Frankenstein to give his monster new life, he had to borrow body parts from the grave. At least that Dr. Frankenstein's donors died of natural causes. President Obama's donors are alive, and have not consented to be killed for their contributions to "science".

Enter Congress ... In 1996 there was a restriction (Dickey - Wicker Amendment) that was passed and repeatedly renewed that said, "Federal money may not be used for research in which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed". In a move that would put Chicago gangsters to shame, the Obama Administration evaded this ban by stipulating that Washington could fund such research, as long as it didn't fund the part where the fetus is terminated.

Enter a Federal judge with sense - Embryonic stem-cell research, he said, "requires the destruction of embryos". The federal prohibition encompasses all research in which an embryo is destroyed, not just the piece of research in which the embryo is destroyed." So any funding of experiments using embryonic stem cells is forbidden by law.

President Bush's policy allowed research only on stem-cell lines that had already been established. The idea was to facilitate studies without creating incentives to destroy any additional embryos. Obama, by contrast, took the view that the destruction of additional embryos, (those left over at fertility clinics) is essential to science. Wow! What a comparison of theology!

Now enter two Illinois wannabe Congressmen - one Democrat - one Republican - both united in their opposition to the federal judge's ruling. One has to ask, when a federal judge enjoins an executive order, because it violates federal law, why are two candidates for Congress saying they don't support the judge's ruling? That is unless we live in a divine monarchy. Where's Peter? Maybe he needs his old job back. Where are the town's people, torches in hand, who go after Dr. Frankenstein and his monster to destroy them before any more damage is done.

UnHappy Birthday 75 yrs Planned Parenthood Wisconsin

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin is celebrating its 75th anniversay with food and music, but no birthday cake for the babies. Wisconsin may be celebrating, but society is paying. Perhaps in the party mode, the facts haven't jumped out of the cake. Planned Parenthood is the number one abortion providor in the nation.

In Wisconsin, Planned Parenthood says, there's ample cause to celebrate the work of the organization, which has prevented far more abortions than it has performed. Here's the real facts.

In 2007, this "not for profit organization" Wisconsin Planned Parenthood made $22 million, of which 24% came from state and federal grants, another 17% from individual contributions, and 55% from insurance and Medicaid.

Wisconsin's Planned Parenthood has 27 health centers, 3 of which are on-site abortion providers, located in Milwaukeee, Madison and Appleton. I am sure all other Planned Parenthood facilities refer for abortion.

In Wisconsin, 77,000 women were served by Wisconsin Planned Parenthood last year. Their working budget for 2010 is $21 million. Of this $21 million, 73% is budgeted toward health care, 5% is for lobbying, (and for birthday parties) and 3% for education.

Planned Parenthood has gone a long way to make a child a choice. A very unhappy birthday to you - Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin.

Abortion Violent Act Begetting More Violence

Has our culture been so desensitized to violence, not only through all major media and entertainment, but also by the blythe acceptance of abortion as a simple and harmless medical procedure? The violent and graphic depiction of a murder, as was seen in the famous movie Psycho, was just the beginning of a desenitization of our society to horrific violence. From there it has been a downhill spiral in our television and movies with scenes appealing to people's visceral appetites. This desenitization to violence paved the way for abortion on demand.

In 1973, abortion on demand became the law of the land, consigning an entire generation to a reality never experienced by their parents. This reality being one of such utter immersion in violence and murder and the dehuminization and utilitarian use of people, the pinacle of which is the ultimate dehumanization of the unborn via legalized abortion.

What are the ultimate effects of such an immersion in violence? When one person's life is of little value, how does this affect the value of other lives? Cloaking the act of killing an unborn child, with the word choice, furthers the denial of the humanity of the child in the woman.

In a recent report, a pregnant teenager was murdered by her boyfriend because she refused to abort his child. Did the dehumanization of the mother's child in her womb, ultimately lead to her own dehumanization by her boyfriend?

Whose 100% ?

Election time is here, and everyone has a different opinion on which candidate will best represents his or her principles. But who ever ideally completely represent everyone's principles 100% ?  This is really an age old question.

The pro-life movement has suffered over the years from a division within its' ranks over this very issue. One side of the argument has contended, that voters of a pro-life conscience should never vote for a candidate unless they represent your principles 100%. This argument has led many of them to NOT vote at all. They oppose the "vote for the lesser evil" approach as a compromise which violates their pro-life conscience. Their approach is "all or nothing".  They need to look at it from the other side. That is, it is not so much that your are voting FOR a lesser evil, as much as it is about voting AGAINST a greater evil in order to CONTAIN it.

Roe v Wade is the law of the land. Subsequent cases have allowed the pro-life movement to use an incremental approach over the years. This incremental approach has given the pro-life side, the opportunity for legislation on Parental Notice, no taxpayer funding, a woman's Right to Know ACT, ultrasound legislation and more.  If we cannot overturn Roe v Wade with one blow, we must at least chip away with an incremental approach.

Even the Holy Father, in his encyclical "The Gospel of Life", said - and I paraphrase, you get what you can get, and go back for more. Of course if you, by your non-vote, have elected the 100% pro-abortion candidate, you get nothing. Not only do you get nothing, but society loses as more lives are lost. Is this principle?

Everyone knows abortion is a spiritual battle. But it is fought in the public arena. This means the legislative arena. And no one running for office will ever be 100% for anyone or anything. But, if we can contain evil by voting for the candidate who gives us 80%, rather than allowing the candidate who gives us 0% to be elected by our non-vote, whose principle are we compromising?

Debates on philosophy are great. How many angels sit on the head of a pin? However in our real world, where every minute 3 babies are killed by abortion, debates have little merit. The hard core truth is we must work to elect those candidates, imperfect as they may be, who will defend life incrementally.  We accomplish nothing by sitting on our couch praying for God to bring us the perfect 100% pro-life candidate. This has tragically, only benefited the pro-choice side with this split in the pro-life ranks, that has lost more elections and more lives.

Culture Shock

Our kids have been immersed in a culture of depravity for over 40 years now. In 1973 abortion on demand was made the law of the land. Immediately, media pundits jumped on the band-wagon, and our culture collapsed under the weight of this legalized killing and its' effects.  De-personalization occurred. The unborn were excluded from the human race and this exclusion was glorified in the pop culture, as a glorified freedom for women.  Pornography, once a fringe element of our society, now moved into our mainstream entertainment and advertising venue. The fringe element became the norm, and the family as we knew it, collapsed.

Remember Tipper Gore? Tipper, before her husband's climb up the political ladder in the Democratic party, worked for ratings on the music industry, in order to preserve the innocence of our young people. Pop-culture immediately responded. Frank Zappa, who has certainly changed our culture, was one of the first to respond with his hedonistic music. After which popular musicians began a diatribe, using their media of songs, to counter Tipper's attempt to rate their music. Furnace Face sang, "We Love You Tipper Gore". "Ode to Tipper Gore" followed. And perhaps the most offensive was " _ _ _ _ You Tipper Gore". Who won that culture war?  Certainly not Tipper. Music wasn't rated and Pandora's Box was opened.

This goes even deeper than a mere stand-off between moral and immoral, religious and non-religious people. This is a war between a modern civilization and an under-culture of barbaric Neanderthals, who would return us to a primitive, uncultured race. We have moved from a civilized society to a barbaric one where the likes of Lady Gaga now reign. Before this assault on a civilized society, even atheists would not have spoken or behaved in the manner we see today with the Pop music industry and culture. We are regressing as a society and a civilization. This should concern everyone.

Many primitive cultures had little restraint upon sexual morays, and would sacrifice firstborn girls, and kill off their aged parents, when they became a burden on the clan. This is the reality of what we are returning to as a society. Now, our modern unbridled sexual excess, which has led to abortion and euthanasia is turning us back to this primitive era, where individual life holds no intrinsic value. Today in our modern society, which is more and more mirroring these barbaric cultures of the past, suicide rates especially among young adolescents, is on the rise. Many believe this is because life has been cheapened by abortion and euthanasia. And isn't that true?

Illinois Abortion Dumping Ground

Have you ever heard of Limbo?  It was a great movie. It is a great theological debate. But in Illinois, it's where the Parental Notice Act of 1995 was consigned. Why Limbo? Well, the ACLU and Judge Dan Riley of the Cook County Circuit Court consigned it there.

In 1995, the Parental Notice Act was signed into law with huge bipartisan support. Hmmmmm. Why then have there been 50,000 abortions on pregnant minors in Illinois since 1995? This includes almost 5,000 abortions on girls almost 14 yrs of age and younger. Illinois is the only state in the Midwest that does not have a law requiring parental notification or consent prior to an abortion. This has allowed more than 55,000 abortions to be performed on non-residents in Illinois since 1995, including an unknown number of out-of-state minors.

You think illegal aliens crossing our borders is a problem? Compare the numbers. Remember for every abortion, there is a mother, father, grandparent, who are victims too. Why so much media concentration on illegal immigration into our country? Believe me, I'm right with them. If you do not have a Rule of Law that is enforced, then you have no Rule of Law at all. Anything goes. Just like Catholicism, where you cannot be cafeteria in your approach, so too our country either has a law, or it doesn't. And the same should also apply to the state of Illinois. Either we have a Parental Notice Act, or we don't. What we don't need in all these cases is limbo.

The ACLU and Judge Dan Riley of the Cook County Circuit Court have consigned the Illinois Parental Notice Act to legal limbo. Where's the outcry? Have you seen any letters to the editor lately? Follow the dollar. Is it in the best interest of government bureaucracies to reduce teen pregnancy? Is it in the best interest of parents to speak up for their children?  What say you?

Horton Who? Who Hatched the Egg?

A recent article in the Daily Herald titled, "Donor's Kids Seek To End Anonymity Of Their Fathers", made me think. First thought that comes to mind, is that I think it borders on child abuse. The second thought that comes to mind, is that our understanding of marriage and the rights of the child, in the Jude-Christian sense, has been drastically eroded. Now, there is a movement for children who are the result of donor sperm fathers, to find their fathers in adolescence and young adulthood.

This brings to mind the plot of the first Star Wars Movie, where the Voyager probe, that has been out into space to retrieve information, became so intelligent it was almost human, so much so that it was seeking it's creator. Now enter children, the result of sperm donors, who are sent into a test-tube. These children have been raised without a father, by choice of a parent. Now a new movie comes to mind -  "The Kids Are Alright". This movie shows two siblings who track down their sperm donor fathers and introduce them to their lesbian mothers. Many, many complications ensue, but the theme repeats, teens yearning to meet their dad, like the star-trek Voyager probe, longing to know the source of their being.

This is a tragedy. What are we doing? In our efforts to re-design nature, we've forgotten the children. Did anyone ask them whether or not they wanted to be raised without a father? In the quest for parental choice and freedom, we've forgotten there's a third person involved here. Perhaps two homosexuals or a single parent  feel they have the right to choose an alternative life-style, but what about the child? It is a selfish perspective, to say the least.

Now comes, a study by the Commission on Parenthood's Future titled, "My Daddy's Name is Donor". This study concluded that these children were more troubled and depression prone - than other young adults in comparative groups, and recommended an end to anonymous sperm donation. Hmmmmmmm. Why just anonymous? When you separate life from love, everyone is going to have problems. It's like a computer. A man donates his sperm and there's no inter-personal action whatsoever. The sperm is implanted in the woman after conception. The result is a baby without a father and a single mom raising a child. This makes children mere possessions, not gifts. After all, there are a lot of sperm and eggs used to create a single life. Many are discarded because they are not healthy or just extraneous.

Why sperm donation? Follow the dollar. It's a huge business in the U.S. Some experts estimate there are at least 30,000 sperm-donor conceptions annually. Some experts say many more.

More than 28,000 people involved in anonymous donations - offspring, parents and donors have registered with the Donor Sibling Registry, like a pedigree registry for animals! The reason for the registry is to help children find their parent. To date, this registry has helped more than 7,400 people find their biological siblings or fathers.

This is right out of Dante's Inferno. Which level of hell are we at now?  Are we at the bottom yet?  How much lower can we go?
