Chicago March for Life

Thousands give voice to preborn at Chicago March for Life

On Sunday, Archbishop Blase Joseph Cupich (pictured) of the Archdiocese of Chicago, Illinois, told a crowd gathering for the Chicago March for Life that abortion was about “the soul of our nation,” which had to “make room at the table” for the preborn.

“The womb should not be their tomb,” Cupich said. “Their lives matter.” Another area religious leader, New Beginnings Church of Chicago’s Reverend Corey Brooks, connected the plight of the preborn to the Black Lives Matter movement. “I have heard [that slogan] said many times over and over,” he said. “I’m here to say, ‘Babies lives matter!'”

Melissa Ohden, a prominent pro-life speaker who was born after surviving a saline abortion in 1977, also spoke: “I’m grateful for the call God has put on my life to be a part of this pro-life ministry. I stand here with you today and every single day marching for those who never will have the opportunity to march.”

In addition, US Congressmen from both political parties, Republican Randy Hultgren and Democrat Dan Lipinski, were in attendance. The latter said, “It’s not a political issue, it’s a world-view issue. You see everything through that view that life is precious, life is valuable. If everyone shared that, killing in Chicago would go down to zero.”

Local Marches for Life occurred over the weekend across the country, including Arkansas, Indiana, Maine, Texas, and Michigan. The national March for Life in Washington, D.C., will be this Friday, January 22
