Planned Parenthood and Christmas

Turning “Peace on Earth” inside out

By Dave Andrusko
PeaceonEarthLooking to avoid what will soon turn into a mad dash to Christmas, last night my wife and I picked out our Christmas tree. This weekend we hope to clear a space in our family room and maybe put on some decorations.
Like most of you, purchasing a tree and trimming it is a tradition in the Andrusko household, one that we hold dear. But there is another tradition—one that I have not seen operationalized yet—one that turns “Peace on Earth” inside out.

I’m referring to Planned Parenthood’s repulsive “Choice on Earth” fundraising campaign. From a reminder of Christ’s birth we have instead a reminder that PPFA’s most recent annual report tells us that the nation’s largest abortion “provider” aborted 333,964 unborn babies. In human terms that is one lost life every 94 seconds.

Ever in the business of building bigger and bigger megaclinics, PPFA replaces “visions of sugar-plums dancing in their heads” with visions of dollar signs dancing over the bodily remains of mangled unborn children.

When PPFA first marketed this abomination and received some heat, its then president President Gloria Feldt insisted the organization was not mocking the sacred but celebrating it. In a letter to Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly, Feldt reaffirmed “the sacredness of choice.” This, she said, “represents belief in every individual’s human and civil right to make our own personal decisions about whether and when to become a parent so that we all can experience the great blessings of motherhood and fatherhood in freedom.”

The “Choice on Earth” fundraiser email and holiday card is of a piece of the way PPFA sees the world. To borrow from Paul’s letter to the Philippians there is nothing that is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, or of good report that cannot be twisted and distorted to fill the coffers of this $1 billion plus “non-profit.”

Let’s hope and pray that for once, Planned Parenthood can take a holiday from distorting the true meaning of the season.
