Gallup Poll

New Gallup Poll shows what we always knew.  Americans have differing views on moral issues. In a society, that has not formed a conscience for many years now, what is moral is what is relevant. Perhaps this should be a warning bell for all churches across the denominational barriers. I think there are many empty pulpits. With the absence of a shepherd, the flock strays; and boy has it strayed.

Gallup shows 50% of Americans believe abortion is morally wrong. While 38% believe it's morally acceptable. What? Killing, morally acceptable?  Where do you draw the line? Our society is so used to the gray areas, that it blurs the distinction between acceptable and allowable. I wonder if the 38% would object to the death penalty?

Gallup shows Americans are evenly divided on physician assisted suicide, with those who say it's morally acceptable, and those who say it's morally wrong, at 46% each. Wow! The empty pulpits ought to be quaking. I think most of the people that are supposed to be in the pulpit, might qualify, if physician assisted suicide is legalized. This issue is especially troubling because there are no safeguards once it's legalized.

Supreme Court nominee Elana Kagan has a position on assisted suicide, which was revealed, when the Clinton Library made public it's information on Kagan. She is opposed to the federal ban on assisted suicide. If confirmed, this could be real trouble on a court that leans left.

Gallup shows, 59% of Americans believe embryonic stem cell research is morally acceptable, while 32%,believe it is morally wrong. The sanctity of human life has been replaced. Killing, at any stage of life, is always morally wrong and should never be accepted by a civilized society. A society that accepts killing, as a solution to social problems, is a barbaric society. The question to ask ourselves, is this what our society wants?

This should be a wake up call across the board in our society. Is this the type of society we want to hand to our children and grandchildren? Everyone has to answer for themselves. It's morally unacceptable to remain quiet, or uninvolved.
