A Good Question

pelosi-planned-parenthood

Ms. Pelosi, if you ‘abhor abortion,’ then why support Planned Parenthood?

What happens when an abortion-supporting politician who once called the abortion issue “sacred ground” gets backed into a corner about defunding born-alive baby parts harvester Planned Parenthood?
She says things she probably didn’t mean to say.
That’s what happened to Democrat House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi this week when she had to answer questions at a press briefing on Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, whose latest scandal involves the illegal trafficking of aborted fetal parts for profit and the willingness to alter abortion procedure to successfully obtain said parts (also illegal). But apparently, illegality has nothing to do with Republican efforts to halt taxpayer funding of the organization committing more than a third of a million abortions annually. No, says Pelosi. It’s that Republicans just don’t like birth control.
MRC TV reports Pelosi’s remarks:
I can attest personally to the fact that for decades that I’ve been here they have been out to get Planned Parenthood because they don’t believe in family planning. That is clear in their votes. They don’t believe in family planning.
Surely what Pelosi meant to say is that Republicans don’t believe in any kind of “family planning” that involves killing children in utero. But it was what she said after this that will cause mouths to gape:
I’ve never – you know, as a mom and a grandmother and all the rest, I respect people’s view on subjects – but I cannot understand why, if you abhor and you view abortion negatively, as we all do, that you don’t understand the value of family planning.
Nancy “Sacred Ground” Pelosi, winner of Planned Parenthood’s 2014 Margaret Sanger Award, “abhors” abortion? Nancy Pelosi, who never saw a pro-abortion bill she didn’t vote for? Nancy Pelosi, who claims to be Catholic yet “laughed off” an open letter from a pro-life priest, informing her that her pro-abortion views do not align with the Catholic Church? Nancy Pelosi, who disdained the conscience rights of pro-life Christians in the medical field? Nancy Pelosi, who claimed that Gosnell’s House of Horrors was totally unrelated to, you know, less “disgusting” forms of “women’s reproductive health”? That Nancy Pelosi?

Will Pelosi’s Planned Parenthood cronies be surprised to hear such strong words emerge from her lips? Perhaps since she “abhors” abortion and “views it negatively,” she could get behind transferring Planned Parenthood’s $500 million annually to organizations who aren’t steeped in corruption, like the 13,500 federally qualified health centers across the nation which offer women and families comprehensive health care – everything Planned Parenthood does, but on a grander scale – except for abortion and harvesting baby body parts.

Perhaps she could also get behind Senate GOP leadership’s push for a continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown, which would halt federal funding to Planned Parenthood until a long-term plan for the budget is in place.
But I doubt any of this will happen. After all, Nancy “Sacred Ground” Pelosi hasn’t really changed her tune. She may “abhor” abortion, but not enough to defund the nation’s largest abortion provider or to stop accepting awards from them.

Let’s be honest, Ms. Pelosi. The GOP’s defunding effort is not about “birth control.” It’s about killing children and then selling their body parts for profit.
And taxpayers shouldn’t be footing the bill for this barbarity.
