PPFA trots out its Clergy Advocacy Board to fend off criticism for trafficking in baby body parts

Over the years NRL News and NRL News Today have critiqued various inane comments from PPFA’s in-house “Clergy Advocacy Board.” The CAB exists to place a religious gloss on PPFA’s primary mission which is to abort over 330,000 babies each year and, more recently, to fend off a storm of criticism of PPFA’s trafficking in intact baby body parts.
So the “faith leaders” put out a statement last week whose first paragraph anticipates everything that is to come:

New York, NY – Today, Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Clergy Advocacy Board released a statement on the politically motivated, heavily edited, and secretly recorded videotape falsely portraying Planned Parenthood’s participation in tissue donation programs that support lifesaving scientific research.

Even by PPFA’s standards, this diatribe is breathtakingly misleading.
We’ve already addressed the “heavily edited” canard many times. It isn’t true and never was. Even the New York Times corrected itself (albeit 16 days after the initial distortion):

An earlier version of this article referred incorrectly to the timing of the release of what they said was a full-length, unedited video of a Planned Parenthood employee talking about how much clinics charge for specimens. While the full-length video of more than two hours took longer to download than the nearly nine-minute edited footage, the full video was in fact posted at the same time as the edited version. It is not the case that the full video was released “after Planned Parenthood complained of selective, misleading editing.

Guess who fed the Times the self-serving notion that it had “forced” the Center for Medical Progress to unveil the full footage? Planned Parenthood.


Second in important only to the lie that the CMP misled viewers is the Clergy Advocacy Board’s lie that “Research using fetal tissue saves hundreds of thousands of lives worldwide every year.” Where does this absolutely untrue assertion come from? The fertile imaginations of the Clergy Advocacy Board.

And having dispenses these false talking points, the irony that the Clergy Advocacy Board would proceed to lecture us that “The scriptures of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam strongly and repeatedly condemn dishonesty and hate” is too rich for comment.
But the worst statements are all those that wrap baby-killing in those same scriptures. In this particular statement, the Board tells us

Our religious traditions call us to offer compassion, not judgment. People who work for Planned Parenthood give care and respect to those in need, doing God’s work. For this we are grateful.
Compassion to whom? To women who have made the tragically flawed decision to abort their child? Of course.
To the cold-hearted mercenaries who peddle intact baby parts to middlemen who sell lungs and livers and hearts and brains to be experimented on? I don’t think so.
“God’s work” is annihilating unborn children and desecrating their bodies? If that does not qualify as sacrilege I don’t know what would.
A core conviction of all major religions is defense of the powerless and the imperative to “Choose Life so that you and your children may live.”
What could be further from the core conviction of the nation’s “leading abortion provider?” Only the east from the west.
