New York's New Mayor and Abortion

The radical pro-abortion agenda of New York City’s new mayor

Bill de Blasio won last week’s mayoral election and has cut out our work for us. He promises to:
1. Regulate crisis pregnancy centers by appealing a court decision and crafting new legislation.
Crisis pregnancy centers are not called clinics for a reason. Women don’t need abortion clinics, they need real healthcare providers and support for the decisions they make regarding their pregnancies. These crisis pregnancy centers provide resources such as material needs for the mother and baby; counseling for giving birth, adoption, and post-abortion stress syndrome; education and job support; parenting and financial literacy classes; and more. “Regulating” them through marginalization and targeted attempts to shut them down will only hurt women.

Side note: Apparently, NARAL is hosting Crisis Pregnancy Center Action Week this week to display their opposition to CPCs. Consider showing support to your favorite pregnancy center in response!
2. Open new abortion clinics as a part of city-sponsored development.

Mayor-elect de Blasio has graciously promised to identify neighborhoods that are “underserved” when it comes to abortion. He plans to then expand abortion, sponsored by the city of New York. Mayor-elect, did you know that NYC already has one of the highest abortion ratios in the nation? Or that 8 in 10 New Yorkers believe there is already sufficient access to abortion? We suggest putting effort and energy into preventing crisis pregnancy in the first place and providing actual healthcare services to women in need.

3. Support abortion training initiatives for medical residents at all HHC hospitals.
These programs initially implemented by Bloomberg will be continued by the de Blasio administration. In addition, de Blasio will work to implement Family Planning aspects of the Affordable Care Act.

Expanding abortion access sounds more like standing against women than with them. But don’t take our word for it. Visit his campaign website to read about his support for expanding abortion in the Mayor-elect’s own words.
