Almost 44,000 have already cast votes on “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance,” Tuesday last day

Last Friday we ran two posts based on Live Action undercover investigations of Southwestern Women’s Options which illustrated in stark detail why Albuquerque richly deserves the moniker “the late-term-abortion capital of the country.” (See nrlc.cc/19zDcsn and nrlc.cc/1dO23gd.)
In those posts National Right to Life President Carol Tobias called on all people of good will to vote in favor of the city’s “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance.” The last day to take a stand is Tuesday.

The office of the Albuquerque city clerk said almost 44,000 Albuquerque voters have already cast ballots early in person, “twice as high as the mayoral election where 21,000 voters cast early ballots in what turned out to be a low-turnout election,” according to the New Mexico Telegram.There is no reason to doubt that the final tally will be extremely close.

What would the ordinance do? It would protect pain-capable unborn children from death by abortion. An abundance of scientific evidence demonstrates that the unborn child can experience pain at 20 weeks; the ordinance would ban abortion at and after that point.

The measure is packed with substantive and symbolic importance.
While Albuquerque is the first municipality to propose such legislation, a similar measure has passed in ten states and the United States House of Representative. Pro-Life Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has introduced a companion bill in the Senate. There is clearly momentum to take a stand against this horrific abortions.

This proposal is unique in the sense that Albuquerque has a reputation as a “progressive” city which is supposed to be code for a willingness to look anywhere but at the reality of what a child would experience when she is torn apart or poisoned by an injection into her heart.
Pro-life organizations have rolled up their sleeves to fight on behalf of the “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance.” According to TIME magazine

“To thwart these efforts, a coalition of liberal groups, including Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico, have banded together under the banner Respect ABQ Women.

“With an assist from Organizing for Action, the grassroots fundraising machine spun out of Obama’s presidential campaign, Respect ABQ Women has raised more than $68,000 to defeat the ordinance, in the hopes of deterring other antiabortion groups from pursuing a similar strategy in other parts of the country.”

New Mexico is the Wild-Wild West on abortion. As we wrote last week, one of the videos shows a brief exchange with abortionist Carmen Landau. Landau tells the investigator from Live Action that she has performed “lots” of abortions on women as far along as the investigator says she is “because in most places you can’t get an abortion after 24 weeks.”
New Mexico “has laws,” Landau says. She pauses: “It doesn’t have a lot of the restrictions.”
But with the help of pro-lifers New Mexico will have one new restriction: you can’t kill unborn babies capable of experience pain in Albuquerque.
