A Tragedy that Did Not Have To BE

By Darla St. Martin, President, Maryland Right to Life Abortionist LeRoy Carhart Authorities in Maryland are investigating the death of a 29-year-old kindergarten teacher from New York who died Thursday after getting a late-term abortion at the Germantown Reproductive Health Services clinic operated by LeRoy Carhart. State and county officials confirmed that she died at the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, but offered no details. “I can confirm that, yes, there is a death investigation being coordinated by the Medical Examiner’s Office and the Montgomery Police Department has been notified,” said Lucille Baur, a spokeswoman for the police department. The probe, being conducted by the Maryland Office of Health Care Quality, is ongoing but “At this point, there is no indication of any criminal activity in this case,” Capt. Paul Starks, a spokesman for the Montgomery County Police Department, told the Washington Post. Ingrid Duran, 1st Vice President of Maryland Right to Life, responded, “This tragic double death shows the urgent need for legislation in Maryland to protect women and children from fly in, fly out abortionists like Carhart.” “One hopes that Maryland authorities will do a thorough investigation in this case and what ramifications it will have on Carhart continuing to do late-term abortions in Germantown,” added Nebraska Right to Life Executive Director Julie Schmit-Albin. Carhart had performed late-term abortions in Nebraska until 2010 when the state passed the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. The Act bars abortions on babies capable of experiencing pain, established to be no later than 20 weeks. Carhart still lives in Nebraska but flies into perform abortions at the Germantown, Maryland abortion clinic which is located about 30 miles north of Washington, DC. There was a wake last night for the young woman in Mamaroneck, New York, attended by scores of mourners, according to the Journal News newspaper. Pro-lifers rallied outside Carhart’s abortion clinic yesterday, saying that the woman had arrived at the Germantown Reproductive Health Services clinic Saturday to begin a multiple-day abortion when she was 33 weeks pregnant. Carhart, who has never been shy about talking to the press, has reportedly not responded to any media requests for comment.
