Marco Rubio

Rubio third pro-life Republican to announce for President; reflections on Hillary Clinton’s official announcement

By Dave Andrusko
marco-rubioAs NRL News Today was about to be posted, pro-life Florida Senator Marco Rubio became the third announced presidential candidate on the Republican side.
Rubio joins fellow pro-life Republicans Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Rand Paul (Ky.). There are many other pro-life Republicans who will announcing the intentions in the days and weeks to come.
“Tonight, grounded by the lessons of our history, but inspired by the promise of our future, I announce my candidacy for president of the United States,” Rubio said, according to the Washington Post. He stood in front of a banner with the slogan “A New American Century.”
As Gary Bauer noted, Rubio (alluding to you know who) said, “Just yesterday, we heard from a leader from yesterday who wants to take us back to yesterday, but I feel that this country has always been about tomorrow.”

Sen. Rubio will travel to New Hampshire on Friday to join other GOP presidential candidates at a Republican summit, in Nashua.
As her not-then-official campaign signalled on Friday, pro-abortion Hillary Clinton did announce on Sunday that she is a candidate for her party’s presidential nomination.
Let’s talk about the campaign video through which she made that announcement and the absolutely spot-on, hilarious spoof Saturday Night Live offered the day before the senator from New York and Secretary of State told us she is the “champion” we’ve always wanted.
You don’t have to be a psychologist or campaign manager or political reporter to see that Clinton is not going to be shy about appealing to women. Some accounts said it was “subtle.” About as subtle as a freight train.

The mega-narrative is three-fold. Things are better (after all, there is a Democratic in the White House) but those nasty 1% are getting all the breaks; Clinton is a “fighter”; and she’s going to earn her votes, practically one at a time, by visiting heartland America.
And according to the press release announcing Clinton’s campaign, “she’s fought children and families all her career.” Ah, sometimes those typos are SOOOOO revealing. Just like the word “for” was missing, so, too, are over 57 million unborn children.

Her first campaign event is in Monticello, Iowa. That initial nationwide 1,000 mile tour, “Depending on her route, “ says ABC News’ Liz Kreutz, “will take her through several other states, likely including Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.”

The SNL spoof is absolutely devastating because it only slightly exaggerates everything everyone already believes about Hillary Clinton (played by Kate McKinnon)–and, for that matter, Bill Clinton, who in the form of the incomparable Darrell Hammond, makes a telling appearance.
The forced smile, which began just this side of a snarl; the overweening sense of entitlement (Hillary/Kate has to be talked out of also running as her own vice president and Hillary/Kate struggle not to laugh at the prospect of any other Democrat having a chance to win the nomination), and the déjà vu reminder (with Bill/Darrell at her side) that “the Clintons are back.”
The notion of Hillary Clinton being genuinely able to identify with ordinary folks is enough to make even the staunchest Democrat guffaw. Even though she and Bill Clinton had multi-million book deals waiting for them in the wings, this is the woman who whined about coming out of the White House practically shoe-less and who charges eye-popping fees to clear her throat.

Her pro-abortion allies were not going to allow a golden opportunity to pass by. PPFA’s Cecile Richards joined with two others of her ilk to trash Republicans for not advancing the trio’s agenda, which, of course, they packaged as the agenda of an “increasingly diverse electorate” in a piece that appeared in Roll Call.

One other quick thought. It’ll be worth your while to keep track of the contrasting ways the “mainstream media” covers the roll-outs. For example, two reporters for the New York Times agreed Clinton’s video was “pitch-perfect.” Really?
We will keep you up to speed on the Republican announcements as they come in.
