Shot in the head, mother miraculously saves her six-month-old baby

Arrendale was shot in the head by the father of her six-month-old baby.
Arrendale saved the child by hiding her in a toilet.
The 33-year-old Georgia mother had come back from an evening out with Antoine Davis, who turned belligerent, according to media reports.
As she held her baby, Arrendale tried to fend off Davis with a baseball bat. He grabbed it away from her, striking both Arrendale and her son, Colbie, several times.
Arrendale raced into the bathroom and locked the door, the New York Daily News reported. But armed with an assault rifle, Davis beat down the door and shot Jessica in the head.
“He shot her and they (police) don’t know how she was able to twist her body and fall literally in the opposite direction,” Jessica’s mother Teresa Ionniello told WSB Radio. “She had pure will. She wanted the baby to live. She was the hero because her last breath was saving the child.”
But at the time the baby’s precarious situation was unknown to police. Unable to contact anyone inside the townhouse, they were reluctant to rush the house, concerned their actions might spark violence. (Davis used a suppressor that muffled the sound of the two gunshots.)
There was a 13-hour standoff and it was not until authorities made it inside the home that they found the Arrendale and Davis, who killed himself in another room of the house, and Colbie.
“Police took the infant to Children’s Health Care of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital,” according to the Examiner. “There, hospital staff treated her for a head injury from the bat and hypothermia.”
