A recent talk show, hosted by a Catholic priest name of Father Albert Cutie, recently featured a live debate with controversial author and political commentator, Ann Coulter on his July 25th show. The debate revolved around recent statements made by Ann, where she warns of the "dangers of single motherhood", and argues that crime rates would decrease if there weren't so many single mothers.
At which point, Father's audience of largely Black and Hispanic women went ballistic! Screaming and shouting insults at Ann, egged on by Father Cutie, they totally attacked Ann and her comments about their ability to raise their children sans a husband and father. What is going on here? Have we so digressed as a society, that we have completely lost all common sense, which our grandparent's generation once held? Is there now something wrong with upholding the ideal of a 2 parent family, as opposed to a single parent home? Here is my own comment I posted to the comments section of the article:
In defense of Ann Coulter I do not believe she is denigrating single mothers, as she is pointing out the fact that it is far more preferable and beneficial to a child to be raised by both a mother and a father, as opposed to a single mother. Yes, there are many wonderful single mothers out there, who have done exemplary jobs of raising children on their own. But does this mean fathers are not necessary? Does this mean, that it makes no difference if you have one parent or two? I have a daughter who is a wonderful single mother ... though not by choice. She and her children were abandoned by her husband and father of her 2 children. And though my daughter has also done an exemplary job of working and raising her 2 children ... she will be the 1st to tell you that it would have been far better for her children to have had their Dad on board. So, it is not about denigrating the job that single mothers are doing, but rather pointing out how much better it is for a 2 parent home, as opposed to a single parent one. It is not about judging single mothers, as much as it is about helping young women to realize the necessity of a good husband and father, as the best option for their children. Even President Obama has been highlighting the role of fatherhood. Is this priest off his rocker?
This is the reason why, today, we have same-sex couples believing that they are just as capable of raising a child, as a one man one woman union. The idea that children do not need both a male and female parent as the ideal for their upbringing, was further shot down, by this priest Father Albert Cutie, who sided with his single mother audience in their vitriol against Ann Coulter's remarks.
Yes, any single parent, or even 2 same-sex partners, can love a child. But, it is not merely about loving a child. Children are not pets, to simply be adored and house trained. It is about the different type of love, which male and female parents give the child, and how those differences help affect and mold the child's character. For many generations now, people, recently backed by psychiatry, understood the benefits of having both a father and a mother,in the formative years of childhood. Psychiatry itself explained the different psychological and emotional contributions which mothers and fathers gave to their children, and how those differences were necessary to the full maturation of the child's own psychological and emotional makeup. But, apparently, Father Cutie pie and his Amazon audience, now believe otherwise. Father Cutie's show simply encouraged and emboldened young women to go out and generate more fatherless offspring, with non-married mothers; while painting Ann Coulter as a disparager of single motherhood. Here are Ann's final remarks to the priest:
"Who's the Christian here, Father? I care about the children. I care about how they are raised and for you to be encouraging women to have children out of wedlock and discouraging them from being sent to nice adoptive homes, I find shocking."
Sorry women libbers ... I agree with Ann on this one.

1 small correction. Fr. Cutie is an ex-Catholic priest who left the Catholic Church after he got caught having an affair in order to get married to the woman & now works as pastor at an Episcopal Church.
Beyond that, I agree completely with your evaluation of Ann Coulter's comments. She was right on the mark.
