A Story Hard to Believe

Abortions 24/7 at clinic owned by man who has had his license suspended five times by Florida Board of Medicine

By Dave Andrusko
abortioncouponHat’s off to Florida Right to Life for bringing this to our attention. You might think that the first sentence says it all: “An abortion center that’s open seven days a week in Florida is giving away coupons to poor women in a crisis pregnancy so they can save money on their abortions!”
It doesn’t because we don’t know that the Orlando Women’s Center is owned by the notorious abortionist James Scott Pendergraft. We wrote last about Pendergraft back in June (“Florida abortion clinic raided and closed by sheriff” )
He is nearly legendary—in a wholly negative way—for performing late, late abortions and for his numerous run-ins with medical authorities. Pendergraft’s license has been suspended five times by the Florida Board of Medicine.

In June police raided and temporarily closed his Orlando Women’s Center abortion clinic because he had only paid $100,000 to a family that he owed more than $36 million in damages. (He botched a 20-week abortion that resulted in a baby who survived his abortion procedure but was severely damaged.) All that notwithstanding, he still operates five abortion clinics in Florida.
But the coupon rankles in an especially odious way.

Come in on Sunday—no rest for the wicked, I guess—and Pendergraft will give you $50 off the price of your abortion. You may notice at the bottom of the coupon: “One coupon per patient.”
But there is plenty more that is obnoxious on his webpage—even dangerous—and more discounts. The following applies to chemical abortions—RU-486:

Abortion Pill Clinic
***For a Limited Time***
Offering the Abortion Pill Procedure Up to $198.00 Off
the Regular Price for Patients Who Qualify

For Patients 3 to 14 Weeks*
Aside from making the slaughter of unborn children cheaper seem like discounted tires, what else is this part of the ad saying?
For starters, the “procedure” takes place for babies from “3 to 14 weeks.” That is pushing the outer envelope of when this is safe (for the mother) big time. Most abortion clinics draw the line at 9 weeks.

And speed: “Patients are able to be in and out of our office on Abortion Pill Clinic days within 2 to 3 hours. Most other facilities require patients to stay for as much as 4 to 8 hours.” Why? Presumably because “our physicians have been performing the Abortion Pill Procedure for over 20 years.”
That would make them not only the first in Florida, but among the very, very earliest practitioners of RU-486 abortions anywhere in the United States.

And because their abortionists are local (“and do not have to travel from out of town”), patients can be seen “24 hours a day, seven days a week.” Abortion mill, anyone?
And business is booming! “In response to numerous requests, we are now providing Abortion Pill Services (RU 486, Mifeprex, Mifepristone) for medical, chemical and non-surgical abortion at several of our Florida locations.” It’s like striking oil.

There is a throwaway line about the pain and discomfort and just a hint that there may be a series of follow up visits, not just one. But, not to worry, it’s an “unparalleled experience.”
Plus, on the off-chance there are problems, “Patients must agree to have the surgical procedure performed in the event of retained pregnancy tissue, heavy vaginal bleeding, or signs of infection; all of which can occur with a surgical procedure.” Maybe not quite as “safe and simple” as women have been led to believe.
Deceptive and morally tone-deaf to the very end.
