Fr. Boquet tells Texas news station pro-lifers care about whole family, not just the baby
“The one thing that oftentimes people say about the pro-life movement is that we’re only concerned about the baby. But in reality we’re concerned about the total person – the mom, the baby, the family and the community itself,” said Fr. Boquet. “The Hope House is an example of that.”
Hope House assists pregnant and non-pregnant women, along with their
children and newborn babies who are in need. According to their website:
We are a welcome refuge for women who have no other place to go because of domestic violence, homelessness, addiction or being left completely abandoned and alone. We provide shelter and assistance to mothers and their children regardless of race, age, ethnicity, religion or disability. Our shelter gives these women the opportunity to accept responsibility, to care for their children, further their education, obtain employment, permanent housing and become productive, self-sufficient members of our community with the support of our staff, volunteers and educational programs.Fr. Boquet was invited to Corpus Christi to speak at the 24th Annual Celebration for Life Fundraising Banquet to benefit Hope House, the Gabriel Project and Birthright of Corpus Christi.
The event was a huge success according to Fr. Boquet. About 550 supporters were in attendance, including many young people and a number of state legislators who have been supportive of pro-life bills.
“The spirit of the attendees was very jovial and hopeful,” said Fr.
Boquet. “People were very excited about the recent legislative
achievements. They talked about the decrease in the number of abortions
because of pro-life legislation.”
Fr. Boquet spoke at the event about the difference between the language of life verses the language of death, and emphasized the necessity of proclaiming the heart of the Christian message.
“It is only in Jesus Christ, who challenges us to speak a new language, that we can bring about an authentic transformation of our world,” he said. “Minds and hearts change when they encounter an authentic witness of Jesus who reflects the love of Christ.”
