Mom gave birth to baby in toilet, threw her into dumpster: police
RICHMOND, VA, June 5, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A 27-year-old Virginia woman is facing felony charges after police say she gave birth to a baby in a toilet, then put the newborn in a trash bag and threw her in a dumpster.
Shavaughn Robinson was working as a masseuse in the Lee Medical Building in Richmond when she went into labor.
After giving birth in the latrine, she placed the baby in the restroom trash can, heaped paper towels on top of the body, then cinched the bag and tossed it into the trash bin behind the building, according to the police.
“Her only concern was cleaning up her mess,” said Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Janae Craddock.
The prosecutor said she discarded her own child "like common household trash."
Cleaning crew reportedly saw her wiping away blood in the restroom, but she said she was ill. A janitor later found the baby girl's body.
Robinson is charged with felony concealment of a corpse but will face additional charges for the death, which police have ruled a murder.
The birth follows a spate of infanticides committed by new mothers disposing of their children as though they were refuse.
Nineteen-year-old Cherlie Lafleur gave birth to a baby in the ladies' restroom at at McCaskey East High School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and then allegedly abandoned the child in the trash can. The baby was between 27 and 29 weeks gestation. Lafleur, who moved to the United States from Haiti and speaks little English, was released from prison last month.
Meanwhile, halfway across the world, viewers were transfixed to video footage of Chinese workers laboring to remove a baby from a sewage pipe after her single mother “accidentally” flushed her down a toilet. The baby girl has been released from the hospital in her grandparents' care.
Some abortion providers actually advise young women to flush their babies down the toilet. In April, an undercover investigator with Live Action filmed a counselor at Dr. Emily’s Women’s Health Center in the Bronx telling her “If it comes out, then it comes out. Flush it if anything, you know, put it in a bag or something or somewhere and bring it to us.”
Such births also take place inside abortion facilities.
Kareema Cross testified that a baby born in a toilet tried to swim out at Dr. Kermit Gosnell's Women's Medical Society in West Philadelphia. Gosnell was convicted in the murder of “Baby D,” as well as two others.
In 2011, abortionist James Pendergraft admitted he sometimes allowed babies to be born alive and then die while “wiggling around in the toilet.”
Robinson, who has a three-year-old son, remained in prison as of this writing. Her next hearing is scheduled for June 12.
