RENO, NV, May 4, 2013 – The baby at the center of the forced-abortion court case in Reno, Nevada that captured national headlines last year has been born.
Cierra Marie was born May 2 weighing 5 lbs., 7 oz. and measuring 17 inches long. She is the child of Elisa Bauer, a mentally handicapped Catholic woman whose parents had to fight to prevent a court-ordered abortion and sterilization last year. LifeSiteNews readers from around the world flooded the court and the governor’s office with phone calls and e-mails begging them not to force Elisa to abort her baby.
After initially appearing to favor the forced abortion, the judge subsequently decided against the abortion after the case received widespread attention, provoking a heated backlash from pro-life activists around the country.
Cierra “has a lot of dark hair and a nice pink skin tone,” wrote Bauer family attorney Jason Guinasso in an email to LifeSiteNews announcing the birth. “She is sweet and good natured. By all measures, she is perfectly healthy and sublimely beautiful.”
Guinasso said both mother and baby are doing well, and a loving adoptive family has been identified for baby Cierra.
