27-29-week old unborn baby delivered prematurely in high school bathroom; mother charged with concealing the death of a child
By Dave AndruskoThe note at the end of the story that ran in the Patriot News of Central Pennsylvania reads, “This story has been changed from an earlier version to correct terminology.” What had changed?
In a horrible account of a young woman delivering a baby in a high school bathroom, readers were first told “she reportedly gave birth to a fetus that was found dead…” The “correct terminology” appeared in an updated story: the 19-year-old mother “reportedly gave birth to a baby that was found dead in a school bathroom Tuesday night.”
There are overtones that remind you of some of the allegations against abortionist Kermit Gosnell. The mother has been identified as Cherlie LaFleur who delivered a premature baby who was 27-29 weeks old in the bathroom at McCaskey East High School, according to reporter Lorenzo Falcone.
“After giving birth in the bathroom, LaFleur allegedly tried to flush the infant down a toilet and, when that failed, she put it in a trash can, police said. A school custodian found the infant’s body Tuesday night and called police, who were assisted at the scene by school district officials and the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office, the release states.
LaFleur is being charged with concealing the death of a child. At this point, it is not known whether the baby was born alive, although according to Falcone the charge can be made even if the child was born dead. Magisterial District Judge Joshua Keller set bail at $1 million.
