Obama to deliver Keynote Address at PPFA “Time to Care” Gala; timing couldn’t be worse

Talk about poor timing.
Thursday night President Obama will continue repaying Planned Parenthood for its massive effort to re-elect the man they say “has done more than any president in history for women’s health and rights” and we say is the most zealous pro-abortionist ever to occupy the White House.
Obama will Keynote Planned Parenthood’s Annual Gala in Washington, DC, which is only fair: PPFA’s political action arm spent most of its $15 million war chest last year to re-elect Obama.
That Obama would attend was already known. What wasn’t known until today was that he would deliver the Keynote Address at PPFA’s “Time for Care” Gala.

Poor timing? How’s this for three examples.
As much as much of the media is trying to ignore the case, abortionist Kermit Gosnell is on trial for murder. In response to a question about the case by Savannah Guthrie on her “Savannah Goes One on One,” here’s the best that Obama could summon up:
“Well, I’m familiar with it. I can’t comment on it because it’s an active trial. What I can say is this: I think President Clinton said it pretty well when he said abortion should be safe, legal, and rare. If an individual carrying out an abortion, operating a clinic, or doing anything else is violating medical ethics, violating the law, then they should be prosecuted.”
In passing it should be noted that today’s Democratic Party has excised the “rare” component from its platform, the platform Obama ran on. And Obama has not been reluctant to comment on other legal proceedings when it suited his purposes.

And then there was the unfortunate—because it was so revealing—response of the Planned Parenthood lobbyist. Here are the relevant questions and responses from Alisa LaPolt Snow, the lobbyist representing the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates, to members of  Florida House of Representatives‘ Civil Justice subcommittee.

“So, it is just really hard for me to even ask you this question because I’m almost in disbelief,” said Rep. Jim Boyd. “If a baby is born on a table as a result of a botched abortion, what would Planned Parenthood want to have happen to that child that is struggling for life?”
Which elicited this from Snow.
“We believe that any decision that’s made should be left up to the woman, her family, and the physician,” Snow responds.

Rep. Daniel Davis follows up:

“What happens in a situation where a baby is alive, breathing on a table, moving. What do your physicians do at that point?”

Snow answers:

“I do not have that information. I am not a physician, I am not an abortion provider. So I do not have that information.”

Okay we understand that you are not a physician but what do your doctors do in that situation? Snow’s answer?

“I don’t know. We don’t even know how prevalent this is.”

Next comes Rep. Rep. Jose Oliva whose first question receives the talking points response from Snow:

“You stated that a baby born alive on a table as a result of a botched abortion that that decision should be left to the doctor and the family. Is that what you’re saying?”

Snow retreats not a step:

“That decision should be between the patient and the health care provider.”

Oliva takes another stab:

“I think that at that point the patient would be the child struggling on the table, wouldn’t you agree?”

Snow first laughs nervously and responds:

”That’s a very good question. I really don’t know how to answer that. I would be glad to have some more conversations with you about this.”

One last (and equally unsuccessful) attempt to find out what PPFA’s objection is.

“What objection could you possibly have to obligate a doctor to transport a child born alive to a hospital where it seems to me they would be most likely to be able to survive?”

To which Snow creatively answers:

“What about those situations where it is in a rural health care setting, the hospital is 45 minutes or an hour away, that’s the closest trauma center or emergency room? You know there’s just some logistical issues involved that we have some concerns about.”

One other example of why having a “Time for Care” Gala right now is awful timing on Planned Parenthood’s part. As a headline in NRL News Today last week explained, “Planned Parenthood of Delaware suspends surgical abortions following allegations of unsafe and unsanitary conditions and 911 calls, State investigating” (http://nrlc.cc/YLJReL).

Our story is very much worth reading, but in a nutshell, Planned Parenthood of Delaware has halted surgical abortions at its Wilmington and Dover offices; the state is investigating the conduct of several licensed medical professionals; two nurses who formerly worked there told Action News that they “quit to protect their own medical licenses, stunned by what they called a meat-market style of assembly-line abortions.”

If that weren’t awful enough, Action News reports that five patients allegedly have been rushed from the facility to the emergency room–just since January 4.

So much for Planned Parenthood distinguishing itself from “outliers” such as Kermit Gosnell.
I wonder if President Obama takes the time to learn enough about the murder trial to comment at Thursday’s Gala? Probably not.
