More testimony that Gosnell slit the spinal cords of aborted babies born alive; defense says they were already in “death throes”
By Dave AndruskoThe outlines of the defense offered by the attorney for abortionist Kermit Gosnell have come into clear focus.
In the case of the death of 41-year-old Karnamaya Mongar, attorney Jack McMahon argues that she had preexisting medical conditions and that the testimony of Gosnell’s untrained assistants about happened that night in November 2009 is inconsistent, vague, or both.
But what about the seven viable babies aborted alive which the prosecution alleges Gosnell killed by slitting their spinal cords? According to McMahon, they “were in death throes from the abortion drug Gosnell had already administered” and that the “twitching” that various employee testified they witnessed was an “’involuntary movement, a last breath’ and that abortion drugs had already doomed the fetus,” reports the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Joseph A. Slobodzian.
However Slobodzian also reports that “expert witnesses testified there was no medical reason for Gosnell to cut fetal spines.”
The parade of former Gosnell employees continued Wednesday and Thursday with the testimony of one even sadder than the women that preceded her.
Ashley Baldwin was 15 when she found a job with Gosnell in 2006. Now 22, Baldwin told the jury of “seeing at least five aborted babies moving, breathing and, in one case, ‘screeching,’ after procedures at Gosnell’s Women’s Medical Society clinic at 3801 Lancaster Ave,” Slobodzian reported. “’They looked just like regular babies,’ Baldwin said to Assistant District Attorney Joanne Pescatore. Baldwin said one baby she saw was so big that Gosnell joked that ‘this baby is going to walk me home.’”
Baldwin told the Grand Jury in great detail what happened and Gosnell’s attitude.
Ashley Baldwin also saw Gosnell slice the neck of moving and breathing babies. When asked how many times Ashley had observed babies being delivered that were moving or breathing or crying and the doctor cut the neck, she answered: “Most of the second tris [trimester] that were over 20 weeks.” She said this happened probably dozens of times, maybe more. She described at least 10 babies as big enough to buy clothes for, to dress, and to take care of. She told the Grand Jury what happened to them:
Q. And what happened to those
ten babies that came out from their mother, that were big enough that
you could put clothes on and take home and take care of, that moved
around, what did you see happen to them?
A. He killed them.
Q. Who killed them?
A. Doc.
Q. How did he kill them?
A. He cut the back of the neck.
Ashley said Gosnell told her this was “normal.” Tina Baldwin told the
jurors that Gosnell once joked about a baby that was writhing as he cut
its neck: “that’s what you call a chicken with its head cut off.”Almost as strange as some of the testimony was the tweet reproduced below from NBC News’s Luke Russert.
