Trial of three medics charged in abortion death of Irish woman to begin March 7
By Dave AndruskoAfter a brief hearing last Friday, Judge Rebecca Poulet of the Central Criminal Court in London determined that the trial of three medics accused of manslaughter by gross negligence in the death of an Irish woman will begin March 7, 2016.
Aisha Chithira died hours after having an abortion at a Marie Stopes Clinic in Ealing in East London. Chithira was 22 weeks pregnant when the 32-year-old died.
The three are Dr. Adedayo Adedeji and nurses Margaret Miller and Gemma Pullen. The trial is expected to last between five and six weeks at which between five and six weeks a variety of medical experts will testify.
In scope and influence, Marie Stopes, along with the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, is the Planned Parenthood of Great Britain.
According to rte.ie/news
The procedure [the abortion] was
carried out at 4.30pm on the afternoon of 21 January 2012. It became
apparent afterwards that she was seriously unwell, was treated at the
clinic and was then discharged and travelled to a friend’s house in
Slough.
Her condition worsened and an ambulance was called. Ms. Chithira was declared dead at 10pm that night.
Prosecutor Colin Gibbs told magistrates it was a “very serious offence,” adding, “All her symptoms, which included falling to the floor, hyperventilating and many other things, were not properly dealt with.”
According to Daily Mail reporter Euan McLelland, Gibbs said
“It became apparent she was quite
unwell as a result of the procedure. She actually suffered an internal
tear and that was causing internal bleeding and blood loss… Ms. Chithira
was discharged and took a taxi to a friend’s house in Slough, where an
ambulance was called for her, before she was pronounced dead at 10pm
that day.”
We also learn from McLelland that the three also face a charge under
the Health and Safety at Work Act of “failing as an employee while at
work to take reasonable care for the health and safety of Aisha
Chithira.”Editor’s note. If you want to peruse stories all day long, either go directly to nationalrighttolifenews.org and/or follow me on Twitter at twitter.com/daveha
