Irish Pro-Life Campaign describes Senator’s support for IPPF/IPFA “I decide” campaign as “indefensible”

Editor’s note. The following statement appeared on the home page of The Pro Life Campaign (PLC). The Oireachtas is the National Parliament of Ireland. The IPPF refers to the International Planned Parenthood Federation and the IFPA is the Irish Family Planning Association.

“It is indefensible and inexcusable the way Oireachtas members like Senator Jillian van Turnhout are lending support to campaigns such as this that advocate abortion throughout the full nine months of pregnancy and for any reason whatsoever,” said Cora Sherlock of the Pro Life Campaign. “What is even more astounding is that the Senator would support a campaign promoted by the IFPA after staying silent when the IFPA was exposed in the media for giving life-endangering information to women. IFPA counsellors advised women to lie to their doctors and say they had a miscarriage and not an abortion if they had any physical complications following their abortion. The seriousness of what was going on cannot be dismissed lightly. Women’s lives were being put at risk as a result of the IFPA’s advice. It also revealed acompleteand total disregard for the welfare of women.”

“It’s simply not good enough that members of the Oireachtas like Senator van Turnhout are now supporting a campaign promoted by the IFPA after having had nothing to say about the shocking revelations regarding counselling practices at the IFPA.”
Commenting on the new ‘I Decide’ campaign promoted worldwide by the International Planned Parenthood Federation which advocates abortion without any restrictions whatsoever, Ms. Sherlock said:

“To be fair, the IFPA and IPPF would make no secret of the fact that the new ‘I Decide’ campaign includes access to abortion throughout the full nine months of pregnancy. Both groups support abortion on these grounds and have a consistent record of blurring the distinction between life-saving medical interventions in pregnancy and induced abortion, where the life of the baby is directly and intentionally targeted. That’s the reality of what this latest initiative is all about,” Ms. Sherlock added.

“It’s a real shame the speed at which some members of the Oireachtas are prepared to endorse such initiatives without asking any hard questions about what is really going on.”
