Euthanasia

Euthanize Prisoner to Use Organs for Parents?

By Wesley J. Smith
euthanizeprisoners3This won’t happen, but I don’t know how euthanasia supporters could oppose the request.
A murderer is suffering from imprisonment. He wants to die so his organs can be used to save his parents’ lives. From the WKRN story:

An inmate housed at the Turney Center in Hickman County is asking the Tennessee Supreme Court to allow him the right to die in prison so his organs can be harvested for his ailing parents…
“I’ve finally come to the realization that I will never again leave prison alive,” he wrote in a letter dated May 15 to News 2’s Joseph Pleasant. “As a result, today I requested of the Tennessee Supreme Court to grant me a ‘Death with Dignity’ in the form of euthanasia.”
So, why not?
His life, his death, his choice, right?
He wants to “die on his own terms,” right?
Killing is an acceptable answer to human suffering, and he may be suffering far more than if he had a physical illness, right?
Some bioethicists, like Peter Singer, have already said this type of thing is a “rational option” for some prisoners, right?

Belgium already couples euthanasia with organ harvesting, right?

A Belgian court also approved of euthanizing a prisoner who didn’t want to spend the rest of his life in jail, right?

Like I said, this won’t happen now. But someday, my pretties. If we stay on the course we are treading, someday.
