The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into whether or not an advertisement on Craigslist selling an unborn baby is a hoax.

Not so long ago, authorities would most likely have scoffed: a pregnant woman offering to sell her unborn baby on Craigslist. Impossible.
Alas, in the world we live in, such an ad now attracts serious attention from authorities, in this case the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI).

WSB-TV reports that the ad has “spurred a full blown investigation.” Here’s how the ad, described as “shocking” (could it be something else?) reads:

“6 months pregnant, don’t want it. Willing to trade it for $ or drugs. Guaranteed white, so don’t come at me cheap, serious offers only.”

Authorities told the Atlanta television station that they have received more than 100 calls about the ad. “We have gotten a lot of tips, we’ve gotten tips from various sources and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children,” GBI spokesperson Sherry Lang told WSB.
Of course, authorities also have to determine whether the ad is a hoax.
“That would be something we would take to the district attorney’s office and let the DA make a determination on that,” Lang said. “We are not sure whether or not it’s a hoax, but it’s a definite possibility.”

At this point, the GBI says it is unclear–if the ad proves to a hoax–what, if anything, the person could be charged with.
