Pregnant woman awakes from coma to see she has delivered her baby

“The doctors were telling us there was nothing else they could do,” said Beverly Giles, 49, of Madisonville, Tennessee. “They already gave up hope. We never gave up. She’s fought this hard.”

Sharista Giles before her December auto accident

20-year-old Sharista Giles was five months pregnant and on her way home from a concert in Nashville when the driver of her car fell asleep at the wheel, crashing into a concrete barrier.
The December accident left the grievously injured Sharista in a coma. A month later doctors were forced to deliver her baby son early. “Baby L.“ weighed less than two pounds
At the time the baby’s godmother, Kaitlyn Melton, told WATE-TV6 that

Giles’s doctors say there is a 90 to 98 percent chance she will never recover. However, Baby L is healthy and she’s hoping both of them can survive.

But Melton and Sharista’s mother, Anne Moser, had other ideas. “You know it could be tomorrow. It could be 8 months from now, but I believe He’s going to do it on His time,” Melton told 6ABC.
And while Sharista’s doctors were predicting the worst, Moser was praying for a miracle.

“I know my God and I know that they’re looking it as scientific. But God made that brain and he could put it back.”

Flash forward to last Wednesday. Staff from the Harriman Care and Rehabilitation Center called to tell the family that Sharista had awakened!
Beverly Giles, one of Sharista’s aunts, said they rushed to the Center. “The whole place was packed out with family,” Giles told 6ABC.
According to the Inquisitr,

Upon seeing her family members, Sharista blinked and gave her family members a hand squeeze. She also looked at her father and followed him with her eyes as he moved across the room. A few minutes later, Sharista was shown a picture of her baby by her father.

“He showed her a picture of her baby, and she followed the picture. When he turned around to put it back on the bulletin board, she turned her neck, her whole head trying to follow and find the picture again,” said Beverly.

Sharista’s baby, who now weighs 6 pounds, four ounces , is currently at the University of Tennessee Medical Center’s neonatal intensive care unit. “Sharista’s family members are hopeful that her condition will improve once she is reunited with her baby,” the Inquisitr reported.

WATE-TV6 reported back in March that a community baby shower was held in Sweetwater for Sharista, a first-time mom. Along the way, friends have sold shirts and set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for medical bills.
