Thousands rally in Dublin to protest media bias

By Dave Andrusko
IrelandabortionprotestreIf you were among the thousands of Irish pro-lifers rallying in Dublin to protest/lament/challenge media bias, it surely came as no surprise to you when local media dismissed the size of the crowd as “several hundred.” (Rather reminds you of the March for Life where no matter how many hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers show up January 22, the media invariably describes the attendance as in the “thousands.”)
The assembly took place outside the Dáil, the lower house of the Irish legislature, from 7-8pm. Organized by the Pro Life Campaign, the rally was dubbed “33-1: Challenging Media bias” because (as the Pro Life Campaign explained on its website) of how “in the space of a fortnight recently, 33 articles appeared in national newspapers pushing hard for more abortion. In the same period, only 1 pro-life article was published.”

“The decision to hold this evening’s event was not taken lightly,” Deputy Chairperson Cora Sherlock said, according to RTE News.

“But media bias on abortion has reached a point where we simply cannot afford to ignore what is going on any longer.
“There has been a tendency on the part of everyone inside and outside of politics to tip-toe around the issue rather than talk about it out in the open.
“That’s not a healthy way to approach such a serious matter in a democracy.
“The public are being continually deprived of the opportunity to hear the case against abortion.
“The 33 pro-choice articles and the one pro-life article that appeared in national papers in the space of a fortnight recently could have been any fortnight that the abortion issue is in the news.
“It just happens that a particular fortnight last December was chosen to gauge the extent of the bias.”

Aided by a supportive media, pro-abortion forces are relentlessly attacking Ireland’s abortion laws. As Pat Buckley has written, “The pro abortion forces in Ireland not content with the fact that Ireland has introduced abortion in certain circumstances have moved to demanding that abortion be made available in the case of fetal abnormality. Needless to say their ultimate goal is abortion on demand.”
Last month, as NRL News Today reported, Member of Parliament Clare Daly’s bizarrely titled “Protection of Life in Pregnancy Amendment (Fatal Foetal Abnormalities) Bill” was defeated 104 to 20 with the abstention of Sinn Féin (a political party). But this is just the first round, as we explained here.
