Abortion

Using GoFundME, woman raises $2,500 to have her abortion, scheduled for this week

The bizarre story of “Bailey,” who used the Crowdfunding site GoFundMe ostensibly to raise money for her abortion, took another twist this week.

The Daily Dot is reporting that it obtained an email from GoFundMe that read, “We’re sorry to inform you that after careful review, GoFundMe has determined that your campaign is not appropriate for our site.” (Her fundraiser was titled the “Stop Bailey From Breeding Fund.”)
“Accordingly, your GoFundMe account has been removed and your campaign is no longer visible on GoFundMe,” the email read, according to the Daily Dot’s Dell Cameron. But that’s just the beginning.

Bailey, whose last name has been withheld, had given an interview to Vice News. Subsequently she was told, “In this particular case, your campaign contains subject matter that GoFundMe would rather not be associated with.”

But that didn’t mean she couldn’t access the money that had already been donated. (She was seeking $2,500. That could suggest a later abortion—in her fundraiser she said she was 19/20 weeks along– or it could mean Bailey was also looking for money for, say, a hotel and/or transportation.)
While her campaign was now inactive, she was told her money would be forwarded to her. “Removal of your account will not affect any of these withdrawals,” the email said, according to Cameron.
Bailey said she was “unemployed, completely broke, in debt, and in no position to hold down a job due to severe symptoms of a rough, unplanned and unexpected pregnancy.” Speaking in the third person her fundraiser said

“Aside from having no desire to raise a child, she is economically unstable and can barely afford to support herself, which means having enough money to pay rent, smoke cigarettes, drink rockstar, support her friends in prison, and if she’s really busted her a _ _, maybe go to a show or two.”

There is, of course, no way to know if the fundraiser was real or a ruse. In her Vice News interview, Bailey said she was 23 and had just moved from Phoenix to Chicago.
After Bailey asked not to name the father, Vice News offered a name. “But yeah, Lücifer Ryzing is someone I’ve known for a long time, that I’m sweet with. He started the GoFundMe page. He’s the one that’s really managing that.”

Bailey talked of serious complications.
“It’s just been really, really painful. Like I said, I just got the ultrasound done and haven’t really been to the doctor very much, so I can’t say there’s a specific condition, but I know that it’s worse than any menstrual cramps I’ve ever had. Sometimes the pain is so bad that I can’t get out of bed, and I can’t go to the bathroom.”

The most important fact, alas, is that the Daily Dot reported yesterday “The GoFundMe fundraiser, plus external support, allowed her to meet her goal of $2,500. According to a friend of Bailey’s, who asked not to be identified by name, her procedure is being carried out this week.”

Troy Farah ended the interview by noting that on Facebook , Bailey said she was getting a kitten.
“Yeah, actually. One of my friends just moved into a house, and they’re talking about getting a kitten. So it’s not actually gonna be my kitten, but it’s going to live in the same house that I stay at, so I’m going to pretend it’s my kitten.
So sad she pretended her baby wasn’t a baby.
