President Obama’s Approval Numbers tumble to 42%
By Dave AndruskoIt’s easy to track the downward arc of what The Hill newspaper today calls President Obama’s “summer swoon” by looking back just to his approval ratings in mid-July and June.
Last night Fox News released its latest poll of 1,007 registered voters and found that over half (52%) say they disapprove of the job Obama is doing as President’s. Put another way his 42% approval number is down 4 points from last month in the same Fox poll and 7 points from his high water mark in February 2013.
Fox News’s numbers are not an anomaly. A July 24 Wall Street Journal-NBC poll found Obama’s disapproval at 50% and his approval at 45%.
Writing for The Hill Justin Sink summarizes some of the key finding in the Fox News survey:
“In recent weeks, Obama has travelled
the country for a series of economic addresses, claiming credit for the
economy recovery, attempting to build support for his budget proposal,
and hammering Republicans for pursuing “phony” scandals.
“But, according to the survey, only
24 percent say that the best way for Obama to solve the nation’s
problems is traveling the country and making policy speeches. By
contrast, 63 percent would prefer Obama to lock himself in a room with
Republicans and work out a solution.”
But what is probably far more ominous for the President is
“Only 20 percent of those polled
think Obama has proposed new ideas to aid the economy, while 71 percent
say the president is recycling ideas he’s talked about for the past few
years.”
