Pro-abortion Kathleen Sebelius to resign as secretary of HHS

Kathleen Sebelius, the strongly pro-abortion secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, is resigning. The announcement comes in the wake of the glitch-ridden rollout of President Obama’s Affordable Care Act.
As her replacement, President Obama will nominate Sylvia Mathews Burwell, currently head of Obama’s Office of Management and Budget.
For the pro-life movement, the blackest mark on Sebelius’ records is the way she has used her position at the HHS to promote abortion through the health care law.

The New York Times reports that officials told them Sebelius was not forced out of her position, but chose to step down. However, complaints about her performance have swelled in recent months.
Last October, nearly three dozen lawmakers called for Sebelius to resign, citing the disastrous launch of Obamacare, which included the widespread failure of the health care exchange website, the cancellation of thousands of private health insurance plans, and complaints from thousands more Americans who saw their premiums and deductibles skyrocket.
“There's no question this is a disaster. It's a multi-hundred-million-dollar disaster. She's in charge of it,” former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich had said at the time. “In the private sector when you have a disaster, you fire the person who's in charge. So, I can't see any justification for her keeping her job that she has failed so deeply to do.”
However, for the pro-life movement, the blackest mark on Sebelius’ record is not just managerial incompetence, but rather the way she has used her position at the HHS to promote abortion through the health care law.

Even before she was tapped by President Obama for the high-profile position steering the HHS, Sebelius had a national reputation as one of the most extreme pro-abortion politicians in the country. During her tenure as governor of Kansas, Sebelius maintained close relationships with the abortion lobby in the state, including notorious late-term abortionist George Tiller.
Under her watch at the helm of the HHS the highly contentious HHS birth control mandate was implemented.
Sebelius repeatedly championed the regulation, which mandates that most employers provide contraception, including some potentially abortfacient drugs, even telling graduating seniors last May that they should be grateful for the “good news” that they will be able to get free contraception.

In response to questions about how employers could provide “free” birth control, Sebelius had responded that providing birth control would ensure that there are fewer births, and thus cut health care costs.
In tense hearings on Capitol Hill, Sebelius was repeatedly grilled to provide a list of plans covered under the Affordable Care Act that provide abortion coverage. But despite promises that she would produce such a list, she never did so.

The demands were made due to the near impossibility for purchasers to sift through the plans on the health care exchanges, to find out exactly what they covered, including abortion.
